Some interesting facts about the bridge:

The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge is a double-decker suspension bridge.
It connects the boroughs of Brooklyn and Staten Island, extending from Bay Ridge to Fort Wadsworth.
Construction on the bridge started in 1959, and it opened on November 21, 1964.
Every ship entering New York Harbor must be able to fit under this bridge.
It serves as the starting point for the New York City Marathon on the first Sunday of November.
Pedestrians and bicyclists are not allowed on the bridge . . . yet.

Sunshine Surprise

The sun was able to break through the storm, for an hour this afternoon. A welcome surprise! The ice on the fire escape is already melting.

30 Hours and Counting...

It's been either snowing or raining for 30 hours now, and the storm is expected to last through the afternoon.  I can hear the snow shovels scrapping away outside and an occasional chunk of ice falling from the fire escape.

Bird of Prey

A bird of prey is on my neighbor's fire escape this morning; I'm guessing it's some type of falcon. One brave (or foolish) crow in the area tried to drive it off by occasionally swooping down towards it, but the falcon held its ground. All of the other birds are chattering like crazy.
